Understanding Teens in their
Digital World

AARP, the organization dedicated to empowering and advocating for older adults, in 2022 organized a thought-provoking educational webinar titled "Understanding Teens in their Digital World." This webinar aimed to delve deep into the complexities and challenges faced by teenagers in the rapidly evolving digital landscape.

To ensure the webinar conveyed the gravity of the topic while also instilling a sense of hope, we created an opening video. We strategically employed various elements of social media impact, listing stats, and built a narrative, capturing the essence of the subject matter, imparting valuable insights and offering a ray of optimism for parents, educators, and anyone seeking a better understanding of this digital generation. We maintained the same color palette throughout and designed custom score playing pivotal role in setting the tone.

The Creative Challenge : To create a :30 second impactful video showing the various ingredients impacting a child’s psyche. The overwhelming input from social media creating chaos and anxiety in their mind and impacting mental health. How do we visually show kids being bombarded with social media and depict their anxiety growing along with social pressures with a hopeful spin at the end.

Style : I was inspired by the cover illustration of Stephen Perine’s article and using the same color palette. The illustrations would be clean shapes, bold colors animatable, no outline. We chose to make it look hand drawn with wiggly lines and drop frames in the animation to a 10fps but deliver 30fps. It gives the piece a more traditional frame-by-frame animation look.

We added a slight movement to the animation with some keep alive aspect and elements moving around the characters to help tell the narrative
